Writerz Block Series
Writerz Block is a project with a series of community writing events and/or workshop activities focused on literary arts in a way to introduce poets, creative writers and authors of various genres to our communities and to increase awareness of Indigenous writers.This series will also provide an outlet to showcase young emerging writers, middle and high school youth grades 6-12 the opportunity to discover their writing voice and who live within marginalized areas.
About the Writer:
Poet, author and educator Tonya Holy Elk grew up in Robeson County, North Carolina. As a poet and workshop facilitator, she shares her work through various workshops nationally, regionally and locally. Tonya has traveled and presented her poetry in many venues. She’s a published writer with creative work in writing publications, poetry anthologies and Indigenous journals. She received her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the Red Earth MFA program at Oklahoma City University. Her new poetry collection, entitled Soul Food, is forthcoming from That Painted Horse Press in Los Angeles, California.
